back to work and need YOUR help!

So, I have been working on curriculum for my new "Visual Communications" class. I am currently working on demos for our Logo unit - and I have come up with a few ideas for a personal logo and need your input. Keep in mind that Logos are supposed to be simple, streamlined, able to work in color or black and white, easy to identify at a very small size, and interesting - yet easy to comprehend at a first look (so the buyer remembers the company). I am thinking these samples are too complex - lemmee know what you think. (these are still in the draft stage, so the details will be better - in the meantime you can click on them if you want to see a bigger version)

I think the first one is too complex hard to understand what it means. I like the second one.

I like the second one! It isn't very complicated, but it looks classy! And kind of makes me think of jazz! (like that place in Portland?)!

thanks guys - keep the comments coming and be sure to tell me what you see - some people are only seeing letters, others are seeing more...

I like the second one better, nice flow of lines. Easier to do, and will keep it integrity over a larger range of sizes.

Okay details, the right one looks like a dancer, something musical and moving. The first one looks sad, I'd like it better without the M, but I like the face idea! Okay though, looking at it more, the M gives it personality, it would be kind of empty without it!

I like the one on the right better. It's graceful and easy to see. You should think about having something drop from the "hand" on the right.

The logo on the left had me baffled. I didn't realize it was a face until I read Jonelle's comment! Mom

I agree with mom. The right one does look best. Don't get me wrong, the face thing is pretty cool. However, the right one would be easier to spot and recognize. Also, what's that saying of "Mom knows best"????? We miss you! ~Tammy & Rusty

The one on the left made me take a long time to realize what I was looking at, only after glancing at the one one the right (which my eye was drawn to naturally btw) could I decipher the left

Thanks for all your input guys! (and gals) I think I have some re-working to do on both of them to make them final-worthy - but I like all the input. It is funny how something that seems so very plain to one person can seem impossible to see to another - keep the comments coming if anything else comes to mind. For the record, the idea behind the one on the left is a drama masque - the sad face (definitely need more work) and the one on the right is a dancer (or a runner depending on how you want to look at it... maybe even an ice skater?)

P.S. good to hear from Sarah, Rusty, Tammy and Mom... stop stalking and start leaving more comments! I love to hear from you! (of course it is also good to hear from Jonelle, Shannon, Molly, Stephen, and all those anonymous-es out there too!

Oh! I see them now. You're right, the face looks more like a drama mask than a sad face. (But maybe its just a Rorschack Test?) Also looks a bit aloof.

The one of the right, I was thinking cross-country.

You could also do one combining the look of your initials in English with in Arabic.

Okay, I'm a slacker and only just posting a comment. In the right one I actually saw a treble clef and immediately thought music. Had to refocus to see the person. The left one would be easier to recognize at a glance if the logo was a solid square (or other shape) of color, with no color (or contrasting color) for the lines. I do prefer the right one as they are now.
