Other things found in the ground

I have been a real slacker about updating you on things that we have found in the ground - here are some photos that show part of the treasure that is being uncovered on a regular basis in our backyard:

This was found the same evening as the china doll head and may seem unrecognizable, but it really is a decomposing shoe or boot sole. you can see the thick layers of leather and the nails that are still there - along with the corroded remnants of the shank (metal thingy that is inside a shoe running from the heel to the arch)

Here are a few pics of complete bottles (not all of them)and a pic of the evening we spent cataloguing and sorting the broken bits - saved them with like-bits in big ziplock baggies.

We also visited Ranger Robert at the Fort Vancouver historic site. When I get my act together we will be emailing him pics so that he can help identify the stuff. He suggested that it was probably a well or a privy and said that there had been a dairy farm in the valley near our home in the late 1800s-early 1900s.

Don't forget to notice the bones in the lower right hand corner!! (and as always you can double click to see a bigger pic!)
