Do Pay the Ferryman...

Or He Won't Get You to the Other Side!
Before we headed for home we took a short (unbelievably short, in the kids minds) trip on the Guemes Island Ferry out of Anacortes. We were the last car on the boat and barely had time to hustle out of the car and take a few photos before we had to whip back into the car to fasten our seatbelts for docking. Thankfully it was a busy weekend on the island with at least two ferry loads of cars in line ahead of us for the return trip. But the little ferry (which holds about 20 cars) was so efficient that we onlygot to spend about ten minutes at the beach, throwing rocks, finding crabs, and squealing at the ferocity of the waves created by the ferry's wake. On the way back to the car, one of the girls had twisted her ankle and had to be piggy-backed the rest of the way, up the hill, to the car (insert the sound of Mom huffing and puffing here) but was recovered... by the time we reached the car. And then we headed home!
